Startup Weekend Toronto was a recent whirlwind event and the Digital Media Zone is thrilled to welcome the winning team!
Early this month, the 54-hour competition took place at the Burroughes Building and the Drake Hotel. Nineteen teams successfully executed startup ideas in a limited time frame and after delivering 4 minute pitches to the judging panel, Vizualize.Me was deemed the winner. Led by Eugene Woo, the team won a $500 first-place prize, as well as 4-months stay at the DMZ! Along with declaring the winner, the Drake Hotel launched its brand new “Grass Fed Capital,” a fund for startups and entrepreneurs.
Vizualize.Me is a resume optimization website that connects to your LinkedIn profile with one click and turns it into a visual infographic. The reception of Vizualize.Me since its launch has been semi-viral: after 12 hours, the site began to generate revenue and over the last 6 days, Vizualize.Me has acquired over 12,000 users.
To showcase its award-winning idea, Vizualize.Me was invited to present at DemoCamp Toronto 29 held in the Ted Rogers School of Management building. After a presentation by keynote speaker Howard Lindzon, co-founder and CEO of StockTwits®, Eugene demonstrated to the audience of about 400 people the simplicity and ease of Vizualize.Me. The audience oohed, ahhed, cheered and clapped during Eugene’s short, but succinct presentation. Eugene is extremely hopeful for his product that he believes has viral aspects. When users receive their visual resume infographic, the link gets posted on their social networks where friends see it and generally try it out for themselves. Upcoming development includes the ability for users to embed their visual resume directly into their LinkedIn profile.
