The First Ever DMZ Startup Party was a Huge Success!

One of summer’s pleasures is the chance to enjoy an evening on a downtown patio, with sushi, a cold beer and a pool of interesting people; in our case talented like-minded entrepreneurs.

While film buffs stood behind stanchions, DMZ teams mingled with 160 of the best and the brightest from the Toronto startup scene, which included advisors, DMZ alumni, visiting fellows and just some cool, creative artists. Held on September 12th, 2012 at Spring Sushi, the DMZ capitalized on the BIA Celebrating Yonge Street Festival that took place from August 17 to September 16 and held their own “Celebrating Yonge” Entrepreneurs event which turned out to be a huge success.

Canadian Youth Business Foundation, OMERS Ventures, Triumf, Picatic and Ryerson Ted Rogers School of Management are some of the notable guests that attended. Alan Lysne, DMZ’s Director of Programming commented “It was a great event to connect mentors and teams. For example, we recently had a new mentor join with deep retail expertise who was looking for a few companies to work with. Two of our Zone members in the retail space were able to meet him in person and start their working relationship right away.”

All our teams were represented including the new kids on the block; Mejuri, Self Digital Portrait and Creative Room. Kanika Gupta, Founder of SoJo agreed “It was great to informally meet with other entrepreneurs in the city.”

Special thanks to the Operations and Marketing team who helped make it happen! As well, thanks to all the DMZ teams for being such great ambassadors.
